ENGINE MAINTENANCE

ENGINE MAINTENANCE, Thousand Oaks, CA

Your engine is one of, if not the most important major component of your car. Without it working in good order, it's impossible for you to go anywhere. If it runs inefficiently, you may face a whole host of problems that can be avoided with relatively simple maintenance. At Tyler's Auto Repair we provide all of the expertise and parts needed to keep your engine running happily and at peak efficiency.

Oil Changes
One of the simplest ways to determine the condition of your engine is to examine the oil that drains out during an oil change. The oil circulates through much of your engine, so it's a great way to determine the overall health of your car's power plant. Ideally, we want your oil to be darker than when it went in with uniform viscosity and no solid particles. Solid particles are a major concern because they mean that something inside the engine, be it a seal or anything else, is breaking apart. Engines contain a lot of finely balanced mechanisms with only a few micrometers of space for moving parts to clear each other. Any solid particles moving through your engine can cause a massive amount of damage very quickly. At Tyler's Auto Repair we perform expert analysis on your oil to make sure that everything is working perfectly within your engine's internals, and we carry the best oils to replace that fluid in your vehicle.

Engine Coolant
Another simple item that can save your engine untold misery, is the coolant fluid, which keeps everything running at the correct temperature. The many moving parts inside your engine, as well as the explosions taking place within its combustion chambers, generate a significant amount of heat. As with any machine, your engine has temperature tolerances at which it happily operates. Once those tolerances are exceeded, things can start to go wrong. A common side effect of overheating can be radiator failure. The water that cools the engine becomes heated and pressurizes the radiator past a safe level causing the scalding water to spray out. This dangerous problem can be avoided with the engine coolants used by Tyler's Auto Repair.

Filters
To work efficiently, your car's engine needs the ingredients for combustion to be delivered in the purest form possible. To this end your engine contains a number of filters which keep everything nice and clean. Tyler's Auto Repair's engine thorough maintenance keeps checks on your air, oil, and fuel filters, replacing them as needed to keep your car running at its highest efficiency.

Fuel Injector Cleaning
Working alongside your spark plugs are the injectors that shoot a precise amount of fuel into the combustion chamber. Over time these injectors can become clogged with contaminants from fuel. Tyler's Auto Repair carries a line of specially developed injector cleaning solutions which open the injector tubing back up and get your car back to making the most power that it can.

Accessory Belts
Engine accessories such as the alternator and air conditioning compressor rely on belts that take power from the engine to run them. Over time, these belts can become frayed and damaged. If your alternator belt snaps, for example, your engine won't be able to generate the electricity it needs to charge the battery and keep itself running. Tyler's Auto Repair can keep a close eye on the health of your accessory belts and ensure that all your engine's pulleys are lined up perfectly to allow for the maximum amount of use from your belts.

Check Engine Light
No one likes to see their car's "Check Engine" light come on. The light could mean a costly problem, like a bad catalytic converter, or it could be something minor, like a loose gas cap. At Tyler's Auto Repair, we can pull the code and diagnose the problem for you. Give us a call at 805-497-4019 or stop by the shop for our expert assistance.

Diesel
Although diesel engines don't require tune-ups and tend to last longer than gasoline engines, they do require regular maintenance. Typical maintenance tasks include:

  • Changing the oil & filter
  • Changing the air filter
  • Changing the fuel filter
  • Bleeding the fuel system
  • Draining the water separators
  • Refilling the urea injection system

You can count on the experts at Tyler's Auto Repair to help your diesel engine last a long time.

Fuel Injection
Fuel injection is a system for admitting fuel into an engine. Since 1990, fuel injectors have completely replaced carburetors as the primary means of getting gasoline into the engine. A fuel injector atomizes the fuel by forcibly pumping it through a small nozzle (under high pressure). Failure of the fuel injection system means poor performance and ultimately destroys the engine. Make sure your vehicle's fuel injection system is maintained properly. For all your fuel injection maintenance and replacement needs, call 805-497-4019 or visit Tyler's Auto Repair today.

Ignition
An ignition system is a system for igniting (using an electric spark) a mixture of fuel and air in a gasoline engine. A properly working ignition system means a properly starting engine and high performance from your car. For all your ignition system maintenance and replacement needs, call or visit Tyler's Auto Repair today.

Ignition Wires & Cables
Ignition cables also known as spark plug wires are an important part of your car's ignition system. They transfer the spark from the ignition coil to spark plugs that ignite the mixture of fuel and air. The mixture starts the engine. Over time, ignition wires and cables get weak and break down. This makes it impossible for the spark to reach the engine cylinders. This results in the engine misfiring. The car will eventually fail to start. If it does start, it will run poorly. Common symptoms of faulty ignition cables and wires are: poor gas mileage, engine misfires, engine light is on, and engine may vibrate. If your car needs new ignition cables and wires, call or visit Tyler's Auto Repair in Thousand Oaks, CA 91360. Here, you will have the wires and cables changed by a top-rated mechanic.

Oil, Lube, and Filter
To keep running smoothly, your car highly relies on oil, lube, and oil filters. Oil helps in lubricating, cooling, and cleaning the internal engine components. With time, motor oil becomes contaminated. Your car needs an oil, lube, and filter change every three months (or 3,000 miles). When it is time for a lube, oil, or filter change, take your vehicle to Tyler's Auto Repair in Thousand Oaks, CA 91360.

Spark Plugs
A spark plug delivers electric current to the combustion chamber from the ignition system. Spark plugs that haven't been changed for a long time can cause ignition problems. At Tyler's Auto Repair, we have automotive experts who will check and replace your spark plugs. For all your spark plug repair or replacement needs, call 805-497-4019 or visit Tyler's Auto Repair today.

What Our Customers Are Saying

Best repair shop in town. Gary diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes. Dealership told me I would have to leave the vehicle for 3 hours. The dealership's high pressure Service Manager telling me it would probably be $800-$900. Tyler's fixed the simple problem for only $229!! Runs perfect now! Thanks Gary! I would give them a DEFINITE recommend!

Three words: efficient, dedicated and affordable. Tyler's Auto is at the end of the cul-de-sac. The Mechanic had a great diagnostic approach to resolving my car issues. He test drove it at least 5 times until he felt all the issues were addressed and the tweaks were made. Just needed new spark plugs, I was done in 2 hours. I'll go back to them.

I went and got a smog done on my car and failed at another shop. They tried to get me to bring my car in the very next day for the necessary repairs which they said would cost over 400.00 plus dollars. I called a couple of other smog places to find out what I could do, they advised me to take the car to a smog technician for a diagnostic test to find out why it could have failed. Tyler's Automotive performed my diagnostic test. They were very thorough and found nothing wrong with my car. They referred me to a smog test only center, where my car passed with flying colors. Thank you Tyler for giving me such great service and saving me from a huge car repair bill. I have found my new go to guy for any future repair issues.

Best mechanic experience I've ever had. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I will never take my car anywhere else. I only trust Gary and the other guys at Tyler's! If you go here you won't be sorry!

Gary and crew are the best! They are honest, hard-working, and really nice. Half the time I go in not knowing at all what is wrong, trying my best to describe what is happening through absurd noises like "eeeeek". And they always find the problem and fix it quickly. The last time I went in, they said I needed a new something or other but instead of ordering a new one and installing it which would have been $300, he said first he was going to try taking apart and cleaning my old one. That fixed the problem and he didn't even charge me for it. Such great guys.

Tyler's Auto has provided us with excellent service for our Chrysler and Cadillac over the last three years. We went to to them when we first moved to the area and they have been so great to work with the whole time. Now we are relocating again and it will be sad to leave such great, dependable, fair and just nice mechanics. We highly recommend them!!!

Tyler's is great! Super honest service! They always give you all the facts and you know exactly what you're paying for. Used to go to dealer and pay three times as much. Not anymore since I found Tyler's!

reviewicon

I love this place. These guys are so honest! It's daunting to find a good mechanic and often times I've felt that my lack of knowledge about cars has set me up to get ripped off...that will absolutely NOT happen here. Good, honest work for a very fair price! Love them!

reviewicon

Tyler's is very honest and pragmatic about what needs to be done vs what is optional. We've been taking our Honda and Toyota there for years. Much more honest than the dealers, and good quality.

I was having trouble with AC on my truck. Several places "recharged" the system but would stop making cold air after a few weeks. A friend recommended Tyler's so I went there about a month ago. They did a great job, fixed the AC system and no trouble since. Very fair price as well. Nice, courteous team. Called back when they said they would. Give them a try.

Great guys, years of experience, they know exactly what they're doing. Brothers Gary and Dave run the place and have been helping me with any issues on my car for years. They do anything from diagnosing an odd sound, to complete engine replacements. I always recommend them to anyone in need.
